Going out the back of the abbey,
they took a path into the woods
where they found a bridge across the river
and the Monk's Fishing House.
There is a hole in the middle of the floor of the house. The monks would
set a net in the hole, and run a cord all the way up the hill to the abbey and attach it to
a bell, which would ring when they had a bite.
Across the bridge was a gateway to a nature walk that leads to
Ashford Castle.
As it happens, we weren't sure that the trail would lead us to
the castle, so we backtracked and took the road there.
