Crossing into Washington

We popped across the river into Washington state, just to be able to say we'd been there. We would have liked to have gone to Mt. St. Helens, but it would have made the day's driving just ridiculous. We were able to see Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Ranier as we took off from the airport.

We saw a lot of timber.

Back in Oregon, we got off I-84 to take old 30, the Historic Columbia River Highway, built 1913-1922. It has no very steep slopes, although the road is pretty twisty. Along it are a number of waterfalls, plus the Vista House at Crown Point, created entirely for the purpose of enjoying the majestic scenery.

The first stop was Latourell Falls, which was a short hike down slope. It was hard to photograph the whole falls at once, so I took this video. Note the nifty rock formations.

From a couple of different vantage points, we could look up and see the Vista House.
